hp-Meshless Method for Dynamic Fracture Propagation

Liszka, T.J., Duarte, C.A.M. and Hamzeh, O.N.

Abstract

A new numerical technology suitable for the solution of crack propagation analysis, and the computer code PHLEXcrack are presented. The technology is based on meshless extension to the Finite Element Method (called Element Partition Method or EPM), which is in general more efficient than Finite Elements. Enhancements to the EPM formulation, specifically designed to handle arbitrary crack surface, and the use of enrichment functions tailored to the fracture problems, provide very efficient tool to solve various problems of fracture mechanics.
